Eddie Maunder

NAME : Eddie Maunder

CPGA DESIGNATION : Member of CPGA for 9 years, Canadian Tour Member for 6 years

LOCATION : Deerfield Golf Club – Oakville, On

EXPERIENCE : I played the Canadian Tour from 2000 to 2006 and during those years I competed in three Nationwide Tour events and attended PGA Qualifying School three times. While on the Canadian Tour I always had a passion for teaching. So during the winter months to keep busy and make some income, I coached golfers at Kings Golf Academy and Core Golf Academy in downtown Toronto. In 2008, I ran the instructional programs for the Winter Golf Academy at The Granite Club and I’m currently at The Ontario Racquet Club’s Winter Golf Academy. I have also written instructional articles for Score Golf and GolfScene Magazine.

PHILOSOPHY : I enjoy helping students grasp the fundamentals and swing more athletically, enabling them to learn and have fun in the process.

BACKGROUND : I have a degree in Sports Medicine from Eastern Michigan University. I try to combine my knowledge of how the body works and a lifetime of experience in the game itself in my method of golf instruction, which I think is a more complete approach to teaching and learning the game. I’ve always enjoyed sports and competition and am still driven to work on my own game to improve and win more titles.

FUTURE : I have always enjoyed helping people improve at golf but if I wasn’t a golf professional I would probably be a high school phys-ed and science teacher. That being said, I would like to have my own academy down the road and get involved with Sport Canada and the RCGA with Elite Level Coaching, especially with golf being included in the 2016 Olympics.

FAVOURITE ONTARIO GOLF COURSE : St. Georges

FAVOURITE GOLF TRAVEL DESTINATION : Pinehurst, NC

ULTIMATE FOURSOME : Jack Nicklaus, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky

MOST MEMORABLE ROUND OF GOLF : Winning a junior tournament at the age of fourteen and in the process beating Moe Norman’s course record of 65 with my grandparents watching. Looking back now, it was great to see how excited and proud my grandparents were because they introduced me to the game of golf and gave me my first golf club when I was three years old.

ADVICE YOU’VE RECEIVED : It’s important to always be yourself, especially on the golf course and don’t try to swing like somebody you’re not.

ADVICE YOU’D GIVE : You will always enjoy the game more if you look at it like a sport. Look at the target and put your own swing on it. If you over-analyze golf, you will surely get frustrated and your scores will get worse.

THE GOLF SWING IS … a reflection of someone’s personality, athleticism, and grace.
