Here it is already early July and it hardly feels like there has been much of a golf season so far. (always seems like a 30% chance of rain). May and June have just flown by and The Canadian Open is less than two weeks away. Our Summer Magazine hits the streets within the next week or so. Watch for it at your local golf course.
In this eNews …
- Read about a few of the summer magazine highlights in this eNewsletter
- Be sure to enter the exciting new GolfScene contest which we have put together with the folks at Callaway Golf. Our draw will be September 1st. Check out the our contest section for all of the diabolical details.
And speaking of contests, congratulations to Dave Cremasco of Stoney Creek, Ontario. Dave was our recent winner of The Heavy Putter from Boccieri Golf . Dave’s name was drawn from the hundreds of contest entrants and he was ecstatic at hearing the good news. Dave has played golf at many southern Ontario courses in his 45 years of playing the game. His three favourite courses are Copetown Woods Golf Course in Flamborough, Willow Valley in Mount Hope and Mystic near Ancaster, Ontario. And Dave told me he has been playing with the same putter for over 30 years. (maybe that’s why he was so excited to receive a new one!). Thanks to everyone who entered.
On a variety of other mid-summer golf stories:
The Canadian Open
Make sure you pick up tickets to this year’s Canadian Open at Glen Abbey in Oakville. Sounds like a top field of professionals are ready to tee it up and the RCGA has many added attractions and entertainment to make for a fun week. And bring out the young ones – Juniors aged 15 and under are permitted access to the grounds FREE when accompanied by a ticketed adult.
The Canadian Tour
Heading this way from stops currently in western Canada is The Canadian Tour which will see three events later this summer in SW Ontario – The Roxul Jane Rogers Championship at The Greystone Golf Club in Milton, the Seaforth Country Classic at the Seaforth Golf Club and the Canadian Tour Championship at The St. Catharines Golf Club. Dates and ticket information are available on The Canadian Tour website.
The Canadian Junior Boys Championship
Another significant RCGA sponsored event that is right in our backyard is the Canadian Junior Boys Championship which will be played at the Westmount Golf Club in Kitchener August 2-9. More information is available on the RCGA website.
With many of the world’s ‘best’ at Glen Abbey in late July, the next great players currently working their way up the professional golf ladder on The Canadian Tour in mid to late August and some exciting young Canadian juniors ready to make a name for themselves in early August, why not take some time to spend a day or two at any or all of these events. You will not be disappointed!
GolfScene exempt at The Seaforth Country Classic
I’m also proud to be able to announce that GolfScene has received a media exemption from the kind folks at The Seaforth Golf Club for their Canadian Tour event in Seaforth, August 24-30. We have decided to enter our at-large-managing-editor (and son) Steve Woods. Steve has already begun working with notable area coaches and golf professionals such as Mike Skimson of The Golf Performance Center at Whistle Bear and Sean Casey from The ClubLink Academy to name a few as he begins his preparation. Follow Steve’s progress updates on golfscene.ca/exemption where he will relay to you some of the ‘ways’ to get better at this crazy game as he attempts to get ‘optimized’ prior to the event.
Play as much golf as you can, as the summer is creeping away (and just disregard the 30% chance of rain. It really means a 70% chance of golfing weather).
