“Backstryke offers a compelling combination of benefits designed to improve the way players align, stroke and roll the ball,” said Austie Rollinson, Principal Designer for Odyssey. “The shaft lean found in Backstryke encourages a forward press putting style used by many of the great players in the game. The way the shaft enters the putter head creates a unique balance, a pleasing, almost elegant look, and also makes it easier to align the putter with the ball.”
In designing Backstryke, Odyssey engineers moved the shaft backwards, placing the axis of the shaft point as close as possible to the putter head’s center of gravity. The result is putting stroke meant to put the golfer’s mind at ease and change the way we look at putting.
Backstryke features Visible Face Alignment that allows golfers to clearly see if the face is square to the target line without the shaft impeding the line of sight. This feature may be the most revolutionary visual aid for precision accuracy since 2001 and the introduction of the putter that now needs no introduction – the Odyssey 2-Ball.
Backstryke’s Forward Press Stabilization allows the golfer to use a hands-forward position without de-lofting the putter head, thus promoting an upward stroke on the ball. The forward shaft lean of Backstryke helps players emulate the style adopted by many of the game’s greatest putters. The shaft position also helps create a stable, straight line with the leading arm to prevent the wrists from breaking down during the stroke.
WEB NOTE: Coinciding with the launch of the new Backstryke line, Canadians can now engage with the Number One Putter in Golf® through a new My Odyssey portal at MyCallaway.ca, where an interactive putter fitting module, the latest news about Odyssey on Tour, and retail information can be found.
