Marcus Golfing Adventures
Conor O’Shea, a Core Golf C.P.G.A. Teaching Professional, not only teaches the fundamentals of the game to players of all ages, he also writes about it in light, cheerful, poetic form aimed at youngsters between the ages of 5 and twelve.
“I’ve always enjoyed literature and golf so I thought I’d try my hand at putting words together that might help young players gain an appreciation for the game and maybe even try to play,” says O’Shea.
“The mini stories follow the tale of Marcus,” he explains. “Marcus is a young boy who is hooked on golf, but is learning to cope with the frustrations of the game by thinking and approaching the game differently.”
O’Shea’s first attempt at publishing is called Marcus’ Golfing Adventures and features a young character by the name of Marcus who loves the game of golf, struggles with his own ability (as most of us do), gets some help from a friendly golf teacher and learns how to ‘see and feel his shots in his mind’.
O’Shea begins the book with Marcus looking out the window on a cold, snowy Canadian day thinking about his time on the golf course the previous summer and wishing next season would approach quickly. Marcus is also growing taller and he has hopes of hitting the ball farther and perhaps even beating mom and dad.
“Marcus speaks to young kids who may be less able to compete, but who can still try to get started properly and learn life’s lessons in a comfortable way,” O’Shea notes. “I realized kids were being put into competitive sport without the skills to handle the pressure associated with golf. I believe there is a better way and that’s how it all started.”
For young golfers learning to read, and with an interest in the game of golf, the book is not only light entertainment, it is also fun.
