Hard Work Gets Rewarded

The kids I coach and have coached in the past are what fuels my passion to become a better coach and more efficient instructor. One of those young players is Jennifer Kirby.

Jennifer has had perhaps the greatest summer in the history of women’s amateur golf in this country. This is due to her insatiable work ethic and a mantra of constant improvement and forward momentum as a player and person. I started working with ‘Jenny’ when she was 13 years old and it became apparent to me quickly what a special player she would become.

One of the determining factors in being successful in golf or life is the sacrifice that is made by an individual to become better. Jennifer spent the last two winters in Florida with me. She left her friends and her dad (who she is very close with) to improve in an environment where golf is the main focus. She did all of her classes online using the internet. No teacher present, and only mom to watch over her, she excelled in both school and golf. She is now bearing the fruits of her labour as the top ranked player in Canadian golf and attending powerhouse University of Alabama on a full scholarship.

Getting better is rarely an enjoyable process because of the peaks and valleys that come from making mistakes and learning from them. Being better on the other hand is pleasing and full of rewards. I couldn’t be happier for Jenny, but with her lofty dreams she has a lot more work ahead of her. Congrats Jenny.
