Notebook: CHATTIN’ with CHEZ

Got a few valuable minutes to sit down with last years Canadian Open Champion Chez Reavie courtesy of the boys over at Quagmire Golf.

Chez ReavieWas there any sort of sign in your game coming into last year’s tournament that made you feel like this could be your week?

No, not really. I was starting to play better leading up to the event and so I just kept playing. Glen Abbey was probably my 8th event in a row. Then on the Friday my putter got hot and due to the weather on the Thursday I was able to play 33 holes that day and shoot something like 15 or 16 under.

Will you prepare any differently now that you are here to defend?

No. I am just going to be doing more of the same. The putter went cold this year early for some reason and that seemed to place more pressure on the rest of my game, but I have seen a turnaround as of late and things
seem to be rolling again which is the same deal as it was last year.

Is Glen Abbey a course that fits your eye?

You know it did. I felt really comfortable out there and seemed to have a really good feel for the holes and that I could shape the shots where I needed to. And I read the greens real well.

Feedback on Quagmire Apparel?

People like the younger vibe. They have not seen a lot of clothing like this until Quagmire, so they ask where it’s from, how comfortable it is, where can they buy it – they just ask questions because Quagmire has not yet blown up in the US the way it has up here in Canada.

Advice for Junior Golfers?

I worked really hard. I love golf and I love competing. I didn’t think about golf for a career until after my first year of college. I hoped to get into college and to pay for my tuition that way and to obviously see how good I
could get, but I honestly never thought about playing golf as a career.

Kids today are under too much pressure to turn Pro early and they need to remember to have fun with it and that the Tour is not going anywhere. They have their whole life to worry about paying their rent through playing golf — I think they need to go to college, enjoy the experience, mature, and learn about how to deal with the world, let alone golf.

Key to making it on Tour

Give yourself time. Do something to get better every day
– sometimes that means taking a day off.
