A Good Swing Equals a Good Score
MYTHCONCEPTION
Having a good swing is the most important factor to shooting lower scores.
BUSTED
There is very little, if any, correlation between your ball striking skills and your ability to score well.
Regardless of your swing style your best golf will manifest itself when you are able to hit the greatest amount of committed shots during a round.
To score better on the course it is important to know the ‘process’ that leads to hitting shots with a quiet reactive mind. The mind is most effective when free from outcome corruption or that dreaded ‘what could happen’ mentality.
‘PROCESS’ IS 3 THINGS:
(1) All pre-shot decisions – giving your mind clear instruction of the desired outcome prior to the shot — I want to hit this 7 iron at the left center of the green
(2) Having a quiet & reactive mind during the swing.
(3) Total acceptance of good shots and instant forgiveness of mis-hits or poor results – all of which occur post-impact
Following this process will allow you to conserve your energy during a round by allowing you to let go of the things detrimental to you. Your mind can then function more effectively during the remainder of the round as it is only concerned with the present moment.
When you understand the value associated with hitting only shots you’re ready you will find your swing repeats well enough to score your lowest.
