Keep your Canadian Open tickets

If you have just watched any, or all of recent The Canadian Open at Oakville’s Glen Abbey Golf Course, hang on to your ticket. It will get you in to see the upcoming Roxul Jane Rogers Canadian Tour stop at ClubLink’s Greystone Golf Club on the side of the Niagara escarpment in Milton.

Elliott Kerr, the Tournament Chairman for the Roxul Jane Rogers Canadian Tour stop just a short drive north of Oakville’s Glen Abbey says, “we have arranged with the RCGA to accept ‘Open’ tickets as admission to our event the week of August 3rd.  For golf fans with an appetite for even more great professional golf, this event will showcase the PGA Tour ‘stars’ of tomorrow.”

The event, named for Jane Rogers, Kerr’s wife who passed away in March of 2007 following a valiant fight with cancer, is run by an army of volunteers who work year-round to provide a showcase opportunity for young golfers from around the world who are working their way up the steep professional golf ladder.

Kerr adds, “we have 12 committees, and over 200 volunteers, many from Jane’s family and all of the proceeds go directly to two charities, the Trillium Health Centre Oncology Unit and the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada.

The first two years of the event were hosted by the City of Mississauga at their public-play Lakeview Golf Course. “The city was instrumental in helping us get started and I certainly appreciate that,” says Kerr. “Without their hard work and support we would not have this tournament at the level it is today. This year, with the assistance of Charles Lorimer and the ClubLink Corporation, we are pleased to have Greystone Golf Club as our home base. It’s a wonderful golf course and should give the players an exciting challenge.”

The Canadian Tour has graduated many familiar names over the years, including Mike Weir, Chris Dimarco, Stuart Appleby, Steve Stricker, Michael Campbell, Todd Hamilton and boasts former and current Canadian players such as Dave Barr, George Knudson, Dan Halldorson, Jim Rutledge, David Hearn, Richard Scott, Graham DeLaet, Lee Curry and Jon Mills.

Kerr adds, “it just amazes me when I watch the work of people like Richard Janes (Tour Commissioner) and his right hand man, Dan Halldorson, two individuals who have taken The Canadian Tour to the new level that it holds throughout the professional golf world. They have gained the respect of the players and respect for what the Tour provides.”

Kerr’s company, Landmark Sports donates all of its time and staff hours to the event to ensure that the maximum proceeds go to the charities involved.  Kerr notes, “we have a large number of sponsors who also support us and we operate a Pro-Am to generate additional revenue. I know Jane would be proud of the total effort behind this annual event.”

This year’s Roxul Jane Rogers is scheduled for August 3-9. Daily passes are $10. Children, students and seniors are free. And don’t forget, if you have a Canadian Open ticket, hang on to it as it will get you into Greystone each of the days of the Tournament.  Greystone is just north of the 401 and west of highway 25.
