The Young Golfer’s Complete Guide to Achievement and Personal Growth is designed to help aspiring young golfers maximize their potential, on and off the course. Based on the insights of one of the world’s hottest up-and-coming golf instructors Henry Brunton– Canada’s National Men’s Team coach, the first Canadian recognized by GOLF Magazine as one of the game’s Top 100 Teachers and a widely-acknowledged expert in developing elite players–Journey to Excellence provides a detailed, step-by-step path by which those who have the will can find the way to reach their goals.
The question is how to make those dreams come true? Certainly hard work is essential, as golf is a game that responds to diligence. And passion is essential, as golf will test the affections of even the most enthusiastic. And talent–honed through effort and lifted by dreams–is necessary too. But how does a youngster harness all of these ingredients? How does he or she find a reliable route from long summer days spent scuffing the dirt at the practice range to being the absolute best golfer they can be? And what lessons can the pursuit of excellence in golf provide young people about being the best person they can be?
Drawing from his two decades of interaction with the game’s most respected educators, coaches and players, Brunton moves beyond the traditional emphasis on the sport’s mechanical side and offers insight into what it takes to reach individual potential and achieve precise goals. They are lessons that will prove beneficial on the course but, more importantly, provide today’s youth a reference for excellence that also will serve them well in the classroom and at home.
The lessons learned in trying to maximize golfing potential–time management, goal setting, dealing with success and failure and showing grace under pressure–are applicable across any number of disciplines. The young golfer who masters these habits will not only become the best golfer they can be, but the best person.
Journey to Excellence provides advice to sharpen every aspect of your game, such as:
- The irrefutable mental habits of championship golfers.
- Practice secrets used by the game’s best players.
- How to choose your equipment.
- How to avoid nutritional double-bogies.

The book looks interesting. There is not too much written for junior golfers (far too much focus on the PGA Tour and or swing gadgets / tips). I will check it out.
I agree with Sam, a book about juniors or the family aspect of the game is good for the game. The cover art says more about why so many of us love the game then another image of Mike Weir’s wine, John Daly’s pants, or, heaven forbid, another oversized driver. Sorry GolfScene if you guys have printed any of those lately :)
no wine, no pants, but maybe a driver or two — thanks for the comments
– and, yes, the book looks like a very worthwhile read and an ideal stocking stuffer for the golfing family
