How dare you Jim Furyk

One of the oddities I find working within the golf publishing business is the sheer amount of  press releases that somehow, someway find there way into the inbox. Now I could probably write 10,000 words on this subject if we wanted to get into the quality, direction, and content of most but this post is not really about that and I, probably like you, am all for brevity when it comes to getting my web info.

Anyway, to the point – I thought it odd that there was no obligatory propaganda piece waiting for me about who won the past weekend’s PGA Tour event and, apparently more importantly, what equipment he used to master the field (many of whom were using the exact same equipment and … that’s another story).

Wait a minute.  Did Tiger get in the way you might ask?  Well probably, but not exactly.  And one would think he would have rather overshadowed someone like Phil anyway.

Sorry, back to the point – the preface is rather simple and I think rather relevant.  The winner you see was none other than Jim Furyk.

And below is why we didn’t get anything in the inbox …

What’s in the Bag

Jim Furyk

  • Winner – Transitions Championship (PGA Tour)
  • Driver: Callaway FT Tour (9.5 degrees; Oban Devotion X shaft)
  • Fairway Wood: TaylorMade Burner 3-wood (14.5 degrees)
  • Hybrid: Srixon (19 degrees)
  • Iron (3, 5-PW): Srixon Z-TX Forged
  • Wedges: Cleveland CG15 (50, 56 and 60 degrees)
  • Putter: Scotty Cameron by Titleist prototype
  • Ball: Srixon Z Star X
  • Footwear: Adidas (Softspikes cleats)

Coach : his father Mike (and last time we checked, Mike was not marketing any gadgets to correct your swing)

How about a super slow motion, high definition swing video?

Sorry, we can’t show that either because apparently Jim’s swing is far too unorthodox and ‘incorrect’ – with that funny loop and all

He must hit the ball a mile then …

Sorry once again – Jim Furyk averages 261 yards

Jim Furyk might just be the Anti-Press Release …

Congratulations Jim! Though I don’t know how you ever did it.

(or how you won a US Open, 2 Canadian Opens and 14 Tour wins in all)

you find it odd to get press releases?

      Sean,

perhaps i didn’t clarify within the post – relevant press releases are fine, but most of the ones we get have so little to do with news and many don’t even make logical sense – that’s i guess what i found odd, which is what i was (apparently not so well) trying to point out in the anomoly above
