Ontario Courses Co-Op to Add Value

George Tidd, a long-time owner of Hidden Lake Golf Course in Burlington has launched an idea that has semi-private golf course owners in Ontario co-operating in a value-added idea that should be a win-win for courses and golfers alike.

Tidd says, “we, as owners, need to stop fighting each other with discounts and price wars and start working together.”
The concept is known as Privileged Member Golf and works like this. Participating courses will allow members from other participating courses to play for a green fee of $30, cart included. Tidd adds, “this idea provides each course with an additional incentive for golfers to take out a 2009 membership and also allows for club members to play a variety of top courses around the province.”

Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club to host Open in 2011

Historic Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club in Vancouver will host the 2011 RBC Canadian Open.
The renowned Vancouver layout – consistently ranked among Canada’s best – had previously hosted Canada’s national Open championship in 2005. The course drew rave reviews from PGA TOUR competitors, ultimately being selected by the players as one of the top courses played on TOUR that season.
“We are thrilled to bring the 2011 RBC Canadian Open back to the Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club,” said Scott Simmons, RCGA Executive Director and CEO. “The quality of the golf course is of utmost importance to PGA TOUR players and the response to Shaughnessy from players in 2005 was overwhelmingly positive. The course is among the premier venues in all of Canada and we are delighted that the membership has agreed to host the championship in 2011.”
